Along with Alkalinity and Magnesium, Calcium is one of the three foundational elements of any reef tank. Calcium is consumed as corals build their stony skeletons and, as such, must be replaced through either water changes, dosing, or a combination of both. However, in order for a hobbyist to know how much to dose the levels of calcium in the aquarium must be carefully monitored.
