Dragon’s Tongue Macro Algae

Dragon’s Tongue
(Gracilaria hayi)

This red macro algae is a popular choice for reef keepers and get its name from its tongue like fronds.  This macro algae is slower growing compared to other ones but makes up for its speed with striking color and unique growth patterns.

Tips

• Use a rubber band or super glue to secure to a piece of rock
• Does best under medium  – high lighting
• Consider purchasing these scissors to prune this and all macro algae

Recommendations 

Keeping in an area of medium-high flow will keep it free from detritus , or you can use a turkey baster to clean off when needed We recommend growing this algae in your display tank as is quiet beautiful.  Does very well under regular aquarium lighting but don’t be afraid to place it higher up.
