Aqua Illumination Nero 3

For reefers looking to add more flow to their Reef Casa aquarium, the Nero 3 powerhead by Aqua Illumination makes a perfect choice.  The Nero 3 is capable of providing up to 2000 gph of flow at its maximum setting, although we recommended running it at lower speeds in Reef Casa tanks.  Despite its power, it has an incredibly small footprint in the tank, measuring less than 2” deep.  This is especially important in nano tanks such as the Studio 12.  Also included is a fish guard that will prevent curious fish or invertebrates from being sucked into the wavemaker.

The Nero 3 is easily mounted anywhere in the tank and is held in place with a powerful external magnet.  The head swivels to allow flow to be directed where it is needed in the tank.  Due to its relatively large diameter, the Nero 3 directs flow in a more diffuse pattern than many other powerheads, increasing the overall water movement in the tank.  This is especially important in smaller tanks, such as the Reef Casa line, as it helps to avoid hitting corals with a direct stream of flow.

The Nero 3 connects seamlessly in minutes to the myAI app via bluetooth.  The app allows for almost endless customization options including Constant Mode, Pulse Mode, Random Mode and Feed Mode.  Different modes can be combined into a 24 hour schedule with infinite possible combinations.  For users who prefer to use a control module, the Nero 3 includes a single button controller with an LED indicator to indicate modes and speeds.  On the off chance that a hobbyist wants to add a second Nero 3 to their reef tank, the myAI app allows two pumps to be coordinated.

While there are definite benefits to adding a powerhead to a Reef Casa aquarium it is important to increase the flow slowly and watch how the corals react.  If desired, the flow can be slowly increased over the course of a few weeks until you find the ideal amount of flow.
